#rangerprotect

This project aims to garner financial support to ensure the well being of Africa’s rangers and their families is improved through the provision of adequate insurance cover in the event of injury or death.

Rangers across the world are subject to an increasing risk of life threatening encounters. They operate in extreme environments, and in their efforts to protect our natural heritage, face the risks associated with dangerous wild animals, sickness, community backlash, and the increasing threat of armed poachers and militia groups.

Over 1000 rangers have lost their lives in the line of duty in the past 10 years. Working in the African bush is not for the faint-hearted. Protected areas in Africa with species such as rhino and elephant have become war zones where armed contacts with poachers are a frequent occurrence. Rangers work uninterrupted for long periods under these harsh conditions with little reward or recognition.

Biodiversity and thriving ecosystems provide both tangible and intangible benefits to society and rangers play a crucial role in ensuring healthy ecosystems. It is therefore of great importance that rangers receive all the support necessary to perform their duties within these challenging environments.

Training Facilities

An endorsed Training provider is an organisation, company or group of individuals who take on the responsibility for the provision of learning towards unit standards, skills programs and or qualifications. As such training providers subscribe to the criteria, policies and procedures, rules, learning provision strategies and the standards set out by relevant Governmental departments, bodies and or affiliated Associations in terms of training and assessment and with this comes expectations and a duty to deliver. Very often these entities will accommodate the learner on their grounds and certainly in the tourism industry the courses are not limited to the classroom. Experiential programs and work placements expose the learner to foreign and sometimes higher risk environments and the company receiving fee’s has a duty of care to ensure the learners are indeed safe and secure.

Under these pre-requisite conditions Training providers need to ensure that the facilities available to both the learners and staff are suitable and meet the required legal standards and requirements as laid down under the various ordinances such as Health and Safety regulations etc. These could include adequately equipped lecture facilities (not necessarily classic classrooms as lecture facilities could be semi-open outdoor style lecture areas), physical and equipment Resources, learning and media resources, general and public liability considerations.

All of the above considered, it would make sense that an entity focused on this sector consult with our specialist brokers to design and put in place relevant risk transfer solutions.

Industry Associations

SATIB are proud to be the appointed brokers of many of the industry’s high profile associations, SATIB can provide tailor-made insurance as relevant to an industry association also being acutely aware of the fact that most of associations are member owned and not for profit organisations, therefore cost containment is key.

The board members of industry associations do so on a voluntary basis, however still are exposed by some fairly unique risks, SATIB is well placed and experienced to best advice on these risks and cater for the same under appropriate insurance policy.

SACT

SATIB support the Southern African Conservation Trust Wildlife & Communities (SACT) who dream of an Africa where human-wildlife conflict issues have been resolved so that people and animals live together in harmony. SACT believe the future survival of wildlife in Africa will be determined by rural communities and proudly support wildlife conservation research and community benefit projects, which support their vision.
